Anne-Marie Smart

Guitar, Piano, Mandolin, Ukulele, and Drum Instructor

Anne-Marie has been playing music since early childhood, beginning with piano lessons at age six. She began studying the guitar only a few years later and was immediately mesmerized. She threw herself into the instrument- studying jazz, classical, and popular styles. Also during this time period, Anne-Marie was a member of numerous award-winning vocal ensembles and choirs.

At the age of 16 she started teaching both private piano and guitar lessons at The Texas Guitar Company in Houston. She has been teaching ever since- giving studio lessons, classroom setting classes, and home lessons.

Anne-Marie graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2011 with High Honors. She graduated as a member of the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa honor society as well.

She has over two decades of performance experience. She has played in a large number of ensembles, with which she has played festivals such as SXSW and Utopiafest, local shows, and private events. She is an active player in the Austin jazz community, specializing in jazz manouche, hot jazz, and Latin jazz. In 2020 she released a debut album "House of the Valley”, tracks from which have been played on local Austin radio shows and received multiple write-ups.

Anne-Marie teaches her students to read standard notation in addition to guitar tab. She addresses music theory and musical concepts from an applied perspective: encouraging creativity, and above all, instilling an appreciation and love for music that will last a lifetime.
