Emily Bishop

Violin Instructor

Emily Bishop is a classically trained violinist and educator originally from the Seattle, WA area. She began her journey with the violin at age four, a passion that led to competition wins such as the Marjorie Easley Concerto Competition and the Oklahoma Community Orchestra's Young Artist Competition. An Endowed Scholar at Interlochen Arts Academy, Emily went on to earn her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Violin Performance from the University of Washington and the University of Oklahoma.

During her undergraduate studies, Emily was the only violinist invited to join the University of Washington's Modern Jazz Ensemble, where she trained under renowned Northwest jazz leaders Marc Seals and Cuong Vu. This experience added depth to her musical versatility, allowing her to explore jazz and improvisation alongside her classical training.

At the University of Oklahoma, Emily served as a music education research assistant, where she developed and taught a curriculum for music education students, many of whom specialized in woodwinds, brass, or percussion, to prepare them to teach orchestra in public schools.

Since 2006, Emily has taught private violin lessons to students of all ages and experience levels. She has also led group classes, hosted master classes at universities, and coached the Wichita Symphony Orchestra’s Youth Symphony program. Drawing on her own early experiences in Seattle’s youth symphonies, she created a chamber music honors program for Wichita’s youth symphonies that emphasized leadership and teamwork, gaining donor support in its second year.

Emily’s performances are equally versatile, blending classical, pop, and rock for events of all scales. With a strong stage presence and a dynamic approach, she captivates audiences on both classical and electric violin. Through her teaching and performing, Emily continues to inspire a new generation of musicians and bring the joy of music to diverse audiences.
