Growing up in a musical family helped develop his ear at an early age. Jim began improvising and composing music on the piano at age 4, then received formal training on the violin at age 7.

Throughout his teenage years he studied with several private guitar and piano instructors learning classical, jazz, rock and other popular styles. He went on to earn an Associates of Arts In Music Performance/composition in 2011.

Jim has been an active player in the Austin music scene for almost 20 years, performing, recording, and collaborating with members of the Austin Symphony Orchestra, Asleep at the Wheel, and many others.

Jim has been teaching music to students of all ages for over 10 years, with an emphasis on customized lesson plans to suit each individual’s needs!

Jim is a versatile player and teacher, having been classically trained himself but receptive to each student’s unique learning style.
