John Takanikos is a musician from Sacaramento, California. John has been a professional musician for the past 20 years and has 30 years of practical music experience.

He started taking private piano lessons for piano at 8 and around 10 started playing the French Horn in the School Band and Orchestra playing in both Junior High School and High School. John studied formally under Rob Knable at Sacramento City College learning practical musical theory.  John has two decades of varied musical experience from playing live, teaching, road crew on a National tour, studio work and has played in dozens of session situations. John also fronts his own band and plays with other local acts.

 John’s approach to teaching is to give students a solid foundation in theory and sight reading. This helps students better understand scales, harmony, chords and rhythm. He also instructs to the physical aspects of playing an instrument through posture, scales and exercises.

John believes every student is different and therefore aims to create a personally tailored curriculum for each student which helps the student reach his or her full musical potential.
